FAQ - Cake Smash Session

  • When should I schedule my cake smash session?

We book a couple months in advance so best time to schedule your cake smash session is 2-3 months before your baby turns one. This will ensure that we will have availability on our calendar. All you need to secure a date on our calendar is a $50 deposit and signed photo agreement. The remaining balance is then due any time before the actual session.

  • When do Cake Smash Sessions take place?

We typically schedule your session about 2-3 weeks before their actual birthday. This will ensure you receive the photos before baby’s actual birthday. If your baby is already 1 year or will be very soon… its not too late. Contact us asap to see if we have a last minute opening.

  • Where does the session take place?

Cake smash sessions take place at our boutique natural light indoor studio. If you prefer an outdoor cake smash, there will be an additional $50 fee.

  • What can I expect for my session?

    • The Set Up: Each cake smash is custom designed to your liking. We have hundreds of props that we can use to make your vision come to life. Take a look at our cake smash gallery here for ideas. If you want something specific that you don’t see in our gallery, as long as we have advance notice, we can most likely build whatever backdrop you would like!

    • Before the Cake Smash: For the first part of the session, we typically take pictures of baby in a cute outfit in front of the backdrop.

    • The Cake Smash: We place baby in front of the backdrop with the cake and let him/her have fun! Some baby’s love the cake, and some baby’s do not. Some baby’s will eat the cake and enjoy it, some baby’s will cry. Either way, we will capture their reaction and do our best to help them have fun.

    • After the Cake Smash: You have the option to add a bath splash to the session. We have a variety of cute bath tubs where baby can have a little splash after the cake smash. Its a super cute and fun way for them to rinse off the messy cake! This is optional and does not extend the time of the session.

  • What should my baby wear?

    • For the first part of the session (before the cake smash), any outfit you would like your baby to wear.

    • For the actual cake smash, you can bring whatever you want baby to wear. Keep in mind that baby will get messy. Or if you prefer, baby can wear one of our diaper covers. We have a huge variety of colors to match your theme.

  • When will my pictures be ready and how do I get them?

After your session, I will work on uploading and editing your images. This process may take about 2 weeks (typically sooner). Once I am done editing the images, I will email you instructions to view all of the images from your session in an online gallery. From there, you will be able to share them with your friends and family, and you’ll be able to choose your images for download (amount depends on your package), and even order any professional prints/ products, or extra digital images you may want (NO obligation to order anything extra).

Please note that images are selected and edited at my discretion. Lauren Cherie Photography reserves the right to edit and release only those images deemed creditable as professional in quality and within my artistic standards. All photos are presented in color, and at my discretion certain images will be changed to black & white. Any changes or additional editing requested by the client may be subject to a fee. Please note: original, unedited "raw" images will not be released.
